11 July 2025

MP Abdelmonem Emam, leader of the ElAdl Party, hosted Canadian Ambassador Ulric Shannon and his delegation at the party’s headquarters in what was the ambassador’s first official engagement with a political party since his appointment in September.

Accompanying the party president, a senior delegation including Secretary-General Ahmed Qanawy, Vice President Sherif Hamouda, and Assistant to the President for Foreign Relations Ahmed ElSayed. Several committee secretaries and members of the party’s High Authority, including renowned author Fatma Naoot, also participated in the meeting.

Ambassador Shannon introduced his delegation and expressed his intention to establish dialogue with a broad spectrum of Egypt’s political forces. The discussions encompassed bilateral relations, upcoming elections, constitutional obligations, and the current economic landscape. Both parties explored potential collaboration opportunities in key sectors including education, technology, and economic development.

A significant focus of the talks centered on Canadian-supported initiatives, particularly those fostering entrepreneurship and small and medium-sized enterprises in the Delta and Valley governorates. The delegations also exchanged views on important domestic and regional developments.
